What to see in Hungary?

Danube Bend, Hungary

A Day in Szentendre (Full-Day)

Colourful old houses, winding cobbled streets, little art galleries and a visit to a fascinating open-air museum – all in one day.

Full-Day Private Sightseeing Tour– In English or Hungarian

Family-Friendly Tour 😊

Just a short drive from Budapest, Szentendre is one of Hungary's most charming small towns. With its colourful buildings, church towers, artists' studios and narrow streets, it feels quite different from the capital.

We'll also visit the Szentendre Open-Air Museum, known as the Skanzen, where you can see how people lived in the Hungarian countryside generations ago.

This is a private tour for you, your family or friends (up to six people). Your English- and Hungarian-speaking driver-host will pick you up from your accommodation in Budapest, accompany you throughout the day and take you back afterwards.

You'll have time to enjoy Szentendre at your own pace, whether you're interested in its history, local art or simply the atmosphere of the old town.

Prices – Departing from Budapest

A Little Town with a Lot of Character

The Old Town and Main Square

We'll visit Szentendre's historic centre, where narrow cobbled streets lead between colourful houses, small courtyards and centuries-old churches.
The Main Square, known locally as Fő tér, is the heart of the town. Its pastel-coloured buildings and old merchants' houses tell the story of a place shaped by several cultures, particularly the Serbian families who settled here centuries ago.
We'll also walk up to Church Hill for a lovely view over the rooftops and the Danube beyond.

Artists, Galleries and Little Shops

Szentendre has a long association with Hungarian artists. Its streets are home to small galleries, ceramic workshops and independent shops selling paintings, handmade pottery and local crafts.
If something catches your eye, we'll stop and have a look. You might even find something special to take home.

Szentendre's Serbian Heritage

Szentendre's Serbian community left a lasting mark on the town, particularly through its Orthodox churches and traditional architecture.
As we walk through the old streets, you'll see some of these historic buildings and hear how Szentendre became home to different cultures over the centuries.

The Skanzen – Life in Old Hungary

A short drive from the town centre takes us to the Szentendre Open-Air Museum, one of Hungary's best-known museums of traditional rural life.
Here, you'll find old village houses, barns, farm buildings and workshops brought together from different regions of Hungary.
We'll walk through part of the museum, step inside traditional houses where access is permitted and see how families once lived, cooked and worked.
The furnishings, kitchens, farming tools and everyday objects show what daily life was like in the Hungarian countryside before modern conveniences became part of the home. The museum covers a large area, so we'll concentrate on a selection of its most interesting buildings rather than trying to see everything.
We'll spend approximately two hours here.

Lunch in Szentendre

We'll make time for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can try traditional Hungarian dishes or choose something lighter.
Food and drinks are paid for separately.

The Danube and Something Sweet

No visit to Szentendre would be complete without spending some time by the river.
We'll walk along the Danube promenade, where you can watch the boats, enjoy the riverside views or stop for a coffee or ice cream.
Szentendre is also known for its marzipan. If you have a sweet tooth, we can visit a local confectioner's to pick up a treat.

A Day at Your Own Pace

As this is a private tour, we can adjust the time spent in the old town, at the Skanzen and by the river to suit your interests.
The whole trip takes approximately eight hours, including the journey from Budapest and back.

Best Time to Visit

We recommend this tour from spring to autumn, when Szentendre's streets, riverside terraces and the Skanzen are at their most enjoyable.

Please note: This tour is available all year round. From late March to late October, the itinerary includes a visit to the Szentendre Open-Air Museum (Skanzen) on its regular opening days, Tuesday to Sunday. From late October to late March, the tour runs without the Skanzen visit, giving us more time to enjoy Szentendre's old town, galleries and riverside.
